Brief Overview
Gingerbred Australian Shepherds is located in Valley Springs, CA. I have been involved with Aussies since 1972 and have been an active breeder/competitor with them since 1980. Over the years, I have bred, owned, and campaigned dogs that have run the gamut from Best of Breed at the ASCA National Specialty to "Couch Potatoes Extraordinaire". I've owned, bred, and handled many Aussies.
I compete in both ASCA and AKC, primarily in conformation and have also completed some obedience titles on my dogs. Aussies I have bred are competing successfully in conformation, obedience, and agility.
I am an active ASCA Senior Breeder judge, judging an average of 8 shows a year.
My Aussie History
My first introduction to Aussies was during high school. My uncle gave me an Aussie as a gift. I called him Fred, his registered name was Cossman's (or Abbott/Goodwins) Spunky Punk. Fred was smart, active and protective of me. Being single and female, I didn't (and still don't) see protectiveness as a problem. His protective nature didn't do much for my social life, but Fred certainly kept me, my car, and my stuff safe and secure.
I began showing Australian Shepherds in conformation in 1980.
I purchased Andy, the best man in my life, from Carol Earnest. He's the dog that gave me the confidence that I could win consistently, and provided the basis for my kennel. He went back to old Flintridge lines, specifically Salt--who I liked a great deal.
Since then, I've been active in a number of local Aussie Clubs, an active breeder and Conformation Judge.
